Site Reliability Engineer resume example
SRE resumes should read like someone who has been on the wrong end of an outage and changed the system so it could not recur.
What we would lead with
- Availability numbers and error budgets you actually operated against
- Toil you removed, with hours reclaimed
- Post-incident work that closed a class of failure, not a single bug
The mistake we would warn you about
Describing monitoring set up rather than reliability achieved. Dashboards are inputs; uptime is the output.
Bullet points that work for site reliability engineers
Each one opens with an action verb, says what was done, and ends with a result.
- Raised checkout availability from 99.5% to 99.97% over three quarters against a defined error budget.
- Removed 20 hours a week of manual toil by automating certificate rotation and failover drills.
- Turned a recurring database failover outage into a non-event by fixing connection draining at the proxy.
- Introduced SLOs across 30 services, which cut the number of paging alerts by 70%.
