Financial Analyst resume example
A financial analyst is hired to make a number trustworthy and a decision easier. The resume should show both: the model, and what was decided because of it.
What we would lead with
- Decisions your analysis changed, with the money involved
- Forecast accuracy, and how you measured it
- The tools you model in and the size of what you modelled
The mistake we would warn you about
Describing reports produced instead of decisions made. "Prepared monthly variance reports" is output. "Flagged a $1.2M overrun in month two" is the job.
Bullet points that work for financial analysts
Each one opens with an action verb, says what was done, and ends with a result.
- Improved revenue forecast accuracy from within 9% to within 3% by rebuilding the model on cohort data.
- Identified a $1.2M hosting overrun two months into the year, leading to a renegotiation that saved $700,000.
- Built the pricing model behind a packaging change that lifted average contract value 14%.
- Reduced the monthly reporting cycle from eight days to four by automating data pulls in SQL.
