Registered Nurse resume example
A nursing resume is read by a nurse manager who wants three things fast: the licence, the unit and acuity you have worked, and evidence you keep patients safe under load.
What we would lead with
- Licence, state and certifications (BLS, ACLS) where they cannot be missed
- Unit type, bed count and patient ratio: a manager places you by them
- Safety and quality outcomes you contributed to: falls, infections, readmissions
The mistake we would warn you about
Listing duties every nurse has. "Administered medications and monitored vital signs" describes the job, not you. Say the unit, the ratio, and what got better while you were on it.
Bullet points that work for registered nurses
Each one opens with an action verb, says what was done, and ends with a result.
- Managed five to six patients a shift on a 32-bed medical-surgical unit, with zero medication errors across 14 months of audits.
- Reduced falls on the unit 38% in a year by leading hourly rounding and a bedside handoff checklist.
- Trained 9 new graduate nurses as preceptor, 8 of whom stayed past their first year.
- Led the unit as charge nurse two shifts a week, assigning 11 nurses and covering staffing gaps without agency spend.
